Formed in April 2006, The Vel Crows are a three-piece band playing "live" and Randy guitar, vocals 47 years ago a 13 year old kid from Wilmington, Delaware picked up an old guitar with three strings missing and began playing it with a piece of a broken clothespin. He taught himself to play by listening to Chet Atkins, The Ventures, and at age 16 Grand Funk Railroad recordings. He played for decades for his own enjoyment, in several local bands, prior to co-founding The Vel Crows in 2006. Having made a local success in 2006 - 07 after joining and playing in three or four other bands, Randy and the members of his band have made a cd with hundreds of copies in circulation, and have enjoyed success playing live all over Delaware and New Jersey. The Vel Crows placed in the top ten Best of Delaware Cover Bands for 2006-2009. Peter: bass, vocals (on the web at pjmmusik.com) Resides in Carneys Point N.J. Bassist Peter McCarthy s tarted playing / studying guitar at age 13.Plays mostly Fender basses and also plays Double bass. Teaches privately...... and at Mannington Music school. Enjoys many styles of music.......really digs the Fab Four Performs with several area Bands.....including Dance, Rock, Jazz, Big Band, and local theater groups. He has performed at numerous venues from Texas to New York. Peter studied composition and theory at Glassboro State College. He has also studied privately with Gregg Powers, Joe Allegro, Bruce Kaminsky and Fred Weiss. He currently teaches at Mannington Music and privately at his residence. In addition to the Jason Shapiro Group, Peter also plays with The Steve Lewis Big Band and local theatre / Jazz ensembles. He will also be found on Electric Bass with the Big Package Band, Lavender, the Vel Crows, and the Beats Workin Band. Peter also plays solo jazz guitar at various local venues. We use various drummers depending on their obligations. We've played with John Reda, Roberta Washington, Chris Banning , and Dwayne.......plus one or two others.
